Visual Field Testing

Visual field testing is used to detect deficiencies in peripheral and central vision, aiding our optometrists in the earlier detection and treatment of many conditions.   OCULUS Easyfield automated perimetry is the most common method of visual field testing in our office, and visual field testing is a part of every routine vision examination.

During testing, the patient concentrates on a central fixation point within the instrument.  It then flashes light points of varying intensities into the patient’s peripheral and central vision, in a random pattern.  The patient indicates detection of each flash by pressing a button.  Using the map provided by this technology, conditions such as glaucoma, retinal detachment, and even some brain tumors, can be detected.  More advanced testing can also performed with the same instrument to help assess the effectiveness of treatment regimens.
